Whether it's a solitary hike in the woods or an afternoon
with 109,900 revved-up U-M football fans, the University
offers a variety of recreational and sporting activities
to the general public. Intercollegiate Athletics The finest in college sports is offered by men's and women's
intercollegiate play. Football, basketball, softball,
hockey, gymnastics, baseball, swimming and golf are among
the competitions that take place on campus. Popular venues
include Michigan Stadium, Crisler Arena, Yost Ice Arena
and Canham Natatorium. Nichols Arboretum The Arb is the University's 123-acre environmental
jewel. Situated on the banks of the Huron River, it is open
to the public to showcase the human relationship with the environment.
The Arb features trees, shrubs, prairies, an array of
plants, a renowned Peony Garden, and the new James D. Reader
Jr. Environmental Center. Admission is free and tours
are available. Recreational Facility Rentals Space in many of the University's recreational facilities
can be reserved by the public for events such as reunions,
picnics, sports tournaments and special events. Facilities
include the Central Campus Recreation Building, North
Campus Recreation Building, Intramural Sports Building,
Radrick Recreation Building, the Sports Coliseum Building
and numerous athletic fields. U-Move Fitness Programs U-Move, a physical fitness program sponsored by the
Division of Kinesiology, offers a variety of classes to the public,
students, Faculty and staff. Classes range from aquatics with
swim lessons and water aerobics; dance such as ballroom, swing
and hip-hop; and activities such as step aerobics, weight training
and yoga. Yost Ice Arena The Athletic Department's Yost Ice Arena provides public
skating seven days a week, private rentals, birthday
parties, drop-in hockey and programs for all ages. Programs
include learn to skate classes, youth and adult hockey
clinics, and hockey camps. |
