Madeline Nykaza

Madeline Nykaza is the Assistant Director of Federal Relations at the University of Michigan (UM). In this role, she leads on issues related to higher education including, but not limited to, federal financial aid, campus safety, immigration, tax and business issues, human resources, STEM education, aerospace research, and arts and humanities. Madeline’s portfolio also includes the federal budget and appropriations process and managing University of Michigan’s funding requests. Madeline directs the communications and social media for the office.

Throughout her career, Madeline has advocated for public higher education and research universities. Madeline previously worked on research and technology policy at the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU). Prior to APLU, she served as a Legislative Assistant to the late Senator Carl Levin of Michigan and as a Legislative Aide in the Michigan House of Representatives, focusing on a wide portfolio of issues including education and biomedical research.

Madeline is a Michigan native and proud two-time alumna of U-M, where she graduated with a double major in Sociology and Spanish and an MBA from the Ross School of Business.
