Community Relations Director, Michael Rein coordinates activities linked with community-based organizations and local government officials in the greater Ann Arbor area and Southeastern Michigan. He has over 30 years of experience developing strong working relationships with community, business, and government leaders. Michael has been involved with several business advocacy groups as well as serving as a board member for many non-profits. Michael is currently a board member of Midtown Detroit Inc, Washtenaw 100, and Destination Ann Arbor.

Deborah Schilz worked in event management at the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor for more than 15 years before coming to the University of Michigan Office of the Vice President for Government Relations four years ago. She began her career as the Facilitates Coordinator for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education at U-M and a Medical Coordinator at the University of Michigan Hospital. Deborah received a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing from Cleary University.

Cynthia H. Wilbanks as Vice President for Government Relations, directs the University of Michigan's Government Relations programs at the local, state and federal levels. Her responsibilities include planning and developing the institution's response to proposed legislation; developing and maintaining effective relationships with governmental agencies and officials; and analyzing and assessing legislative, administrative and regulatory activities as they pertain to University programs, activities and operations. She also supervises the activities of the State Outreach office.

Veronica A. W. Johnson currently serves as director of the U-M Lansing Service Center, and as an outreach representative to communities in Mid-Michigan, particularly Battle Creek, Jackson and Mount Pleasant. Veronica earned her Master's degree in Information from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor's degree in Communications/Journalism from Wayne State University. Prior to working for U-M, she worked in State Government for former Governor James J. Blanchard and Senator Hansen Clarke and at the Library of Michigan.

Working out of U-M's Washington, D.C., office, Ko advocates and coordinates federal interactions for the U-M research enterprise, keeping Congress, the executive branch, federal agencies, research organizations, professional societies and public policy organizations apprised of the achievements, needs and opportunities arising from the university's research community. She also informs and advises U-M faculty and administrators on federal legislative, regulatory and research policy developments that affect the conduct of research on campus, and works with other institutions to develop appropriate responses.

Madeline Nykaza serves as the Assistant Director for the U-M Washington, D.C. office. Madeline previously worked on research and technology policy at the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU). Prior to APLU, she served as a Legislative Assistant to Senator Carl Levin of Michigan and as a Legislative Aide in the Michigan House of Representatives. Madeline is a Michigan native and proud alumna of the University of Michigan, where she graduated with a double major in Sociology and Spanish.
